It's not often that device codenames serve as a direct mission statement, but with the outing of the One V, neé Primo, first-timers are getting an entry level HTC-welcome. The Ice Cream Sandwich-laden handset, running a Sense 4.0 overlay, hearkens back to the design of the Legend, with a black-ish gray, aluminum unibody, hardware keys (three for back, home and apps) and prominent chin jutting out below its Gorilla Glass-coated, 3.7-inch WVGA LCD display. The company hasn't specified the exact CPU powering the phone, but we do know it's a 1GHz single-core affair buffered by 512MB RAM. Storage-wise, you're looking at a paltry 4GB onboard that can be augmented via 25GB of Dropbox, or the available microSD slot. Beneath its sealed enclosure lies a 1,500mAh battery, quadband GSM and WCDMA radios, in addition to support for GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth. Directly benefiting from the manufacturer's recently announced ImageChip, is its 5 megapixel rear shooter, outfitted with an AF f/2.0 lens and capable of recording 720p video. Jeremy Lin entertains while telling story of his rise to stardom at NBA All-Star weekend

ORLANDO, Fla. - Jeremy Lin was as comfortable in front of a crowd as he is on the court.

Lin shared his story Friday in front of about 100 people during an entertaining press conference before playing in the Rising Stars Challenge consisting of rookies and second-year players.

Lin isn't an All-Star, but he starred Friday in Orlando.

"Just to be here and to see the company and all the players that are here," Lin said, "it's just been unbelievable, and I'm just trying to take it all in and embrace it and enjoy it every step of the way."

The NBA determined there would be too many reporters and cameras to have Lin meet with the media Friday along with the other players in the Rising Stars Challenge. So the league gave him his own availability, territory that only goes to Commissioner David Stern.

Lin's first question was from Knicks teammate Landry Fields, who asked his backcourt mate if he knew who the MVP of the San Francisco Pro-Am was in 2009 and 2010. Lin, from the Bay Area, knew it was Fields.

"He played for the Oakland Believers, and he doesn't have a lot of friends," Lin said.

Fields is Lin's closest friend on the Knicks, and Lin spent the night before his breakout game sleeping on Fields' couch since his brother's place, where he had been staying, was unavailable.

The couch story became well known ? Fields even posted a picture of it on Twitter ? and Lin revealed that a couch was going to be part of the Slam Dunk contest before Knicks rookie Iman Shumpert had to pull out with a knee injury.

"Landry was going to roll a couch out with a cover over it, I was going to be sleeping underneath it, and then we were going to pull the cover," Lin said. "I was going to throw to Iman an alley-oop from the couch, and he was going to jump over both me and the couch, windmill it and then sit down and have Landry hand him a Sprite."

Lin has led the Knicks to a 9-3 record since joining the rotation on Feb. 4. He feared for his NBA career only days earlier, praying that he wouldn't be cut before a Jan. 27 game in Miami.

Even with his stellar play, Lin wasn't supposed to be here, his emergence coming after the Rising Stars rosters were set. He planned to be on a beach somewhere, only to be drafted by Shaquille O'Neal for Team Shaq ? who never gave Lin the word himself.

"Shaq missed practice this morning, so I don't know, I think we should fine him or something, because we were all expecting him to be there," Lin said. "But I look forward to meeting him soon."

Lin scored two points in the game, logging only 9 minutes after playing on back-to-back nights. Even his parents got some camera time, both shown looking at their cell phones and ignoring orders to kiss during a "Kiss Cam" segment while Lin looked on in amusement from the bench.

Lin was coming off his first bad game as a starter, held to eight points and three assists on 1-for-11 shooting in a loss at Miami on Thursday. That only created more of the type of doubts Lin has been fighting against all his life.

Part of that, Lin acknowledged, could be his heritage. He's the first American-born NBA player of Chinese or Taiwanese descent.

"I think just being Asian-American, obviously when you look at me, I'm going to have to prove myself more again and again and again, and some people may not believe it," he said. "I know a lot of people say I'm deceptively athletic and deceptively quick, and I'm not sure what's deceptive. But it could be the fact I'm Asian-American, but I think that's fine. It's something that I embrace and it gives me a chip on my shoulder."

Lin's contract for the rest of the season became guaranteed two weeks ago, though he said he hasn't splurged on anything yet. It wasn't long ago he thought he may have to consider playing overseas, or a fifth trip to the NBA Development League. Maybe even a break from basketball.

Now he's the biggest story in the NBA, appearing on the cover of Sports Illustrated two weeks in a row. He wants the success to last, though maybe not the attention.

"I'm definitely surprised that people are still talking about Linsanity or whatever," he said. "I think hopefully as the season progresses, it will go from that to New York Knicks, and hopefully the Knicks can win basketball games, we can make a good push after the All Star break and people will start talking about the Knicks and not necessarily me."

Things are looking not so good for Mitt on Super Tuesday.

At this time, there are three Super Tuesday states for which corroborated multiple polling exists, Georgia, Ohio and Oklahoma. And Mitt?s not winning any of them.

Here?s the current Georgia CPSR picture, based on the two latest polls taken from 2/22-23 by Rasmussen and this latest release from Landmark here, with trend indicators based on the two previous surveys taken by Survey USA and Mason-Dixon between 2/1-8:

The next Super Tuesday state for which we have corroborated multiple polling is Ohio. Here?s the current Ohio CPSR picture, based on the two latest surveys taken 2/7-15 by Quinnipiac and Rasmussen, with trend indicators based on the previous survey taken by Quinnipiac on 1/9-16:

The third Super Tuesday state for which we have corroborate multiple polling is Oklahoma. Here?s the current Oklahoma CPSR picture, based on the last Sooner and Rasmussen surveys taken between 2/8-21, with trend indicators derived from the previous Sooner poll, taken 11/17-12/16:

Romney and Gingrich are statistically tied, but since Gingrich has trended down from the previous survey whereas Romney is steady, I give Romney the edge and second place to Gingrich?s third place. Similarly Paul and Undecided are statistically tied but, since Undecided has trended down since that previous Sooner poll, I place Undecided beneath Paul.

And once again, as you can see, Romney is not currently headed for a win here. Rather surprisingly, given this is a Southern state where most believed Gingrich would do well, it is once again Santorum rather than Gingrich who seems to be exciting conservatives, even here in so-called Gingrich territory. In fact, Gingrich does not even appear to be running second here. This is illustration, if illustration were needed, of how weak Gingrich appears to have become even with his own base. He?s coming in a weak third behind Romney, with Santorum coming on very strong in first place in the low forties compared to his nearest rival, Romney, who only manages to score a distant second around 20%.

By the way, Killjoy suggests these updates of mine would be ideal on Twitter. I?ve got a Twitter account, but I?m not sure what hash tag to use if I start posting abbreviated versions of this sort of stuff on Twitter. Any neat ideas for a hash tag? Thanks.

Even when Santorum led in Michigan, he overwhelmingly lost in ?Best chance to beat Obama? cross tabs in Rasmussen poll, when he was exposed, his numbers collapsed, his point was his purity, him being ?true conservative?, if you have to choose between two non-pure candidates, might as well go for the more electable. Santorum is in the ?Best chance to beat Obama? cross tabs 12 points behind Romney and 11 points behind Gingrich in Georgia, expect the debate, and losing Michigan, Arizona and Washington to collapse his numbers.

I?m pretty sure Romney will get delegates from many southern congressional districts, being second, and the winner being below 50% in CD (Georgia, Oklahoma), or in Tennessee?s case below 67%, is enough for 1 CD delegate.

Samsung ML-2165W

If you need a personal mono laser to sit on your desk, and don't want to give up a lot of desktop real estate for it, the Samsung ML-2165W ($130 street) is a tempting choice. It offers Wi-Fi, suitable paper capacity for a personal printer, reasonably high-quality text and graphics, and acceptable, if somewhat slow, speed. Samsung also offers free apps to let you print from an Android, iOS, or Windows 7 device by way of a Wi-Fi access point. (It also plans to add direct Wi-Fi printing with a firmware upgrade later this year). Unfortunately, the printer also has a relatively high running cost, which limits its appeal if you print a lot of pages.

The ML-2165W's most striking feature by far is its small size. It may be the smallest laser printer that's ever showed up at PC Labs, at just 7.0 by 13.0 by 8.5-inches (HWD). That's smaller than most inkjets. It's also smaller than, for example, the HP LaserJet Pro P1102w ($149 direct, 3.5 stars) or the Editors' Choice in this category, the Brother HL-2270DW ($150 street, 4 stars).

One of the costs of keeping the printer size down is that the ML-2165W is a little weak on paper handling. It offers a single 150-sheet tray, no manual feed, and no automatic duplexing (for printing on both sides of a page). The low paper capacity means that if you print more than about 30 pages a day, you'll have to add paper often enough so it may turn into a small annoyance.

This could be a problem if you want to take advantage of Wi-Fi to share the printer with even one other person. For most people who use the ML-2165W as a strictly personal printer, however, the 150 sheets should be adequate.

Setup, Speed, and Output Quality
Setup on a Windows Vista system was standard for a USB-connected mono laser. The ML-2165W's speed is best described as fast enough that you won't feel like you're always waiting for it, but slower than the competition. It came in on our business applications suite (using QualityLogic's hardware and software for timing) at 7.6 pages per minute (ppm). In comparison, the Brother HL-2270DW managed 11.7 ppm and the HP LaserJet Pro P1102w effectively tied that at 11.4 ppm.

The ML-2165W did better on output quality than speed. Text quality falls in the middle of the range for mono lasers. It's easily good enough for any typical business use, including documents with small fonts?at least, if you pick the right font. Depending on how much of a perfectionist you are, you might even consider it good enough for desktop publishing applications.

Graphics quality in my tests was dead on par for a mono laser, making it good enough for any internal business need, including PowerPoint handouts for example. Photo quality was a bit below par, with the printer losing more shades of gray than most mono lasers. However the quality was still acceptable for most situations where you'd use a mono laser for photos, like printing Web pages that include photos. On the other hand, I'd hesitate to use the printer for a client newsletter with photos, because of a noticeable loss of the subtle shading that makes photos look photo-realistic.

One potential issue for the printer is the relatively high running cost, at 4.3 cents per page. If you don't expect to print much, that shouldn't be a problem, but it's something you should consider before buying. As a point of comparison, the Brother HL-2270DW's claimed cost per page is 2.2 cents lower, or a savings of $22 for every thousand pages. You don't have to print all that many pages for this to add up to a big difference in total cost over the life of the printers.

The other issue you'll want to consider is paper handling. Both the Brother HL-2270DW and HP LaserJet Pro P1102w offer a higher paper capacity along with a 10-page multipurpose tray in one case and a manual feed in the other?something you'll also find in Samsung's own ML-2545 ($100 street, 3 stars). On the other hand, the additional paper handling features go hand-in-hand with a bigger size. If you can live without them, and particularly if you want a printer that takes up as little desk space as possible, the Samsung ML-2165W is a potentially good choice as long as you're not concerned about the running cost.

The Rev. Patricia Anderson Cook of Mt. Healthy United Methodist Church in suburban Cincinnati plans to provide the service for people of all faiths and services beginning around 5 p.m. in the church's parking lot.

?Some people are very busy, and some people get a little intimidated walking into a church, this is for them," Cook told the Cincinnati Inquirer.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Christian season of Lent, which concludes after 40 days with the celebration of Easter.

In addition to ashes, Cook will provide a church brochure and a Lenten booklet.

?It?s a drive-thru,? she said. ?Not a drive-by.?

The church is also offering a more traditional Ash Wednesday service inside at 7 p.m.

Argentina, Brazil To Create Automotive Trade Committee | The ...

Argentina and Brazil will create a bilateral committee to study automotive trade between the countries, Argentina's Industry Ministry said in a statement Monday.

Plans for the committee emerged from a meeting between Argentine Industry Minister Debora Giorgi and Brazilian Foreign Trade Secretary Tatiana Prazeres, who met to discuss trade tensions between the countries.

Argentina's government has been moving rapidly to limit imports of all kinds in a bid to protect its trade surplus, alarming officials in Brazil, its top trade partner.

"Argentina isn't a problem for Brazil but rather a part of the solution," Giorgi said after the meeting.

Giorgi's comments come after Fernando Pimentel, Brazil's minister of development, industry and foreign trade, said last month that Argentina is a "permanent problem."

"We have good political relations, but economically it is difficult to deal with them," Pimentel said in an interview with Dow Jones Newswires.

Officials from the two countries will resume trade talks in two weeks.

Argentina's trade surplus has been declining in recent years as growth in imports surpasses rising exports.

Meanwhile, the trade deficit with Brazil has grown substantially. Last year the deficit was $4.2 billion, compared with about $3.4 billion the previous year.

Argentine officials are particularly concerned about automotive and auto parts trade. Argentine manufacturers sell the vast bulk of car exports to Brazil. Yet many of those cars are made largely with parts imported from Brazil.

Argentine officials want this to change and are pushing local companies to produce more of those parts here.

In a somewhat strangely-worded statement, Giorgi said Argentina and Brazil should work together to "impede multinational companies from liquidating the crises in their countries of origin with profits made in Mercosur."

Mercosur is a customs union whose founding members include Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Obesity epidemic shows no hint of shrinking in the United States

America?s obesity epidemic is proving to be as stubborn as those maddening love handles and shows no sign of reversing course.

More than one-third of adults and almost 17 percent of children were obese in 2009-2010, echoing results since 2003, the Centers for Disease

Control and Prevention reported recently.

?It?s good that we didn?t see increases. On the other hand, we didn?t see any decreases in any group,? said CDC researcher Cynthia Ogden.

Early in the decade, slight increases were seen among white, black and Hispanic men, and among Hispanic and black women. Those changes may be leveling off, but the authors said they ?found no indication that the prevalence of obesity is declining in any group.?

Kimberly A. Keser, a family nurse practitioner at AWL Family Health Care Clinic LLC in Cape Girardeau, said fast food and busy schedules are contributing to the steady level of obesity.

?Fast food is a huge problem,? Keser said. ?It?s quick and easy. It?s so easy just to pick up a burger and fries on the run. In addition, our society is very busy and hectic, and for the most part we do not exercise.?

Keser noted that people should watch what and how much they eat and exercise 30 minutes a day.

In 2009-2010, more than 78 million adults and almost 13 million children ages 2 to 19 were obese, the CDC researchers reported.

While those numbers haven?t increased in recent years, ?we?re plateauing at an unacceptably high prevalence rate,? said Dr. David Ludwig, director of an obesity prevention center at Children?s Hospital Boston. He was not involved in the reports.

The CDC reports summarize results of national health surveys in children and adults, which are conducted every two years. The nationally representative surveys include in-person weight and height measurements. The 2009-2010 reports involved nearly 6,000 adults and about 4,000 children, from infancy through age 19.

The results were released online in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Dr. Elbert Huang, an associate professor of medicine at the University of Chicago who studies health care policy issues, said his research shows that even if obesity rates continue to remain stable, there will be dramatic increases down the road in diabetes and in costs linked with that disease. That?s because Type 2 diabetes, among many diseases linked with obesity, becomes more prevalent as people age.

The latest reports ? one on children and the other on adults ? focused on obesity, meaning a body mass index of at least 30. But the numbers of adults and children who were overweight, with a BMI of between 25 and 29, also remained high.

Overall, 33 percent of adults were overweight but not obese, versus about 15 percent of children and teens.

Justin Franke, a physical therapist at Select Physical Therapy in Jackson, said that helping curb childhood obesity starts with parents.

?Set an example,? Franke said. ?Kids mimic their parents in diet and activity. If they see their parents sitting watching TV every night, children will see that as acceptable. Get outside and run and play with the kids or at least stand around and make them do the running.?

Raina Childers, a registered dietitian and nutrition services coordinator for HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau, also noted the importance of parents setting a good example, eating at home more and being physically active.

?There are many things parents can do to help any age child,? Childers said. ?First, be a healthy example. Choose healthier foods and plan for physical activity and watch how much time is spent in front of a television or computer screen.

?Eating at home helps control overall calories, can encourage fruit and vegetable consumption, and provides an opportunity to spend time together as a family. Parents can also limit high-calorie snacks and beverages available in the home, get the kids outside to play or participate in sports, and limit their screen time daily.?

Rates of overweight or obese adults and children were generally higher in blacks and Hispanics than in whites.

The government says a healthy weight is a BMI of between 18 and 25. The index is a measurement based on height and weight.

Dr. Victoria Adjovu, an internal medicine physician at Cape Primary Care in Cape Girardeau, said for some individuals a medical problem may contribute to weight gain.

?Medically, we do see some illnesses such as Cushing?s disease and polycystic ovary syndrome which can lead to obesity or weight gain,? Adjovu said. ?In addition, drugs such as steroids and some antidepressants can cause weight gain.

?There is also evidence that some genetic disorders can lead to obesity. With these conditions, we treat the underlying disease and individualize the weight-loss goals.?

Jane Wernsman, assistant director at the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center, said education is an important component to losing weight.

?What do we suggest: Educate individuals and families about healthy nutrition and physical exercise, and encourage them to make healthier choices in their daily lives,? Wernsman said.

Dr. Greg Pursley, a chiropractor at PC Wellness Centers in Cape Girardeau, said that planning is critical to meeting any weight-loss goals.
?Make a plan and change your lifestyle,? Pursley said. ?Most people skip the planning process and jump in to a fad diet. Did you know that 95 percent of diets fail? It is because of a failure to plan.?
