Warriors owner Joe Lacob supporting Mark Jackson through coach's sex scandal

EDITOR'S NOTE: Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob answered questions from Tim Kawakami Thursday night about coach Mark Jackson being a target of an extortion scheme involving Jackson's extramarital affair six years ago.

Question: I know you put the statement out on Mark Jackson's situation today. Where are you personally with Mark on this?

LACOB: Same place as yesterday. We love him as a coach, love him as a person. He's our coach. We stand behind him.

Obviously it's a difficult situation for him that happened to him. All I can tell you is that we didn't know anything about it obviously until recently. Clearly, very surprising. I think he's obviously somewhat embarrassed by it.

But one thing about Mark Jackson, he's a stand-up guy. If you saw his statement, he laid it out and said he made a mistake. You know, six years ago, not anything having to do with the Warriors.

And we didn't know that, certainly had no expectation obviously that something like that ever happened. But he's a great guy, great coach, we're 100 percent behind him.

He'll get through this. He's doing all the right things -- the FBI got involved as you know, they've got the people in custody. It's a pretty crummy situation.

Q: Do you wish you'd known about this?

LACOB: I wish it never happened. I'm sure he does, too. But it did. And that's life. We knew about it as soon as he

told us, basically, not too long ago, obviously when the FBI was getting involved.

It's not like he hid it from us. It only happened in late April, something like that, so it's not been that long.

I don't know, the Warriors seem to ... this organization always seems to have bad luck with things like this. Obviously, this organization we're building, we've worked really hard to change the culture, to change everything about this organization, have quality people everywhere, and Mark is a quality guy.

He made a mistake, as he has admitted to. He's owned up to it and moved on.

Q: Is there any worry about a credibility issue -- whether it's in the locker room or in the community? He's the public face of this franchise in many ways.

LACOB: We're moving on, we're going to deal with it. That's for people like you to write about it and his players, if there's a credibility issue that's something he'll deal with.

You've got to look at a man's total body of work in his life. I'm sure you've made some mistakes in your life that you probably wouldn't want to get out in public. Everybody has. It's unfortunate. But he's a really good man and we back up 100 percent. We stand right behind him.

GOP candidates in Oklahoma's 2nd district want to see health care act repealed

Read the Tulsa World continuing coverage of the health care law.

It paves the way for nationalized health care and makes the United States like the socialized countries of Europe, says candidate Markwayne Mullins.

It's a huge expansion of federal bureaucracy and intrusion into the lives of individuals, says George Faught.

The two, who will face off in an Aug. 28 run-off election to determine the GOP candidate for Democrat Dan Boren's seat in Congress, agree on one thing: "Obamacare" must be repealed.

Mullins and Faught were quick to shoot out press releases decrying the U.S. Supreme Court's Thursday decision that the law is constitutional.

Their Democratic counterparts were not so fast with their thoughts.

Neither sent press releases immediately after the ruling.

Campaign workers for Wayne Herriman said repeatedly that he was either on the telephone or in a meeting when contacted about the issue.

Neither Herriman nor his campaign responded to questions on the issue.

In a June 22 Pryor Times story, Herriman said the Affordable Care Act is too expensive in its present form but that it has its merits. Herriman does not want to repeal Obamacare, as he believes it can be made affordable, the paper reported.

Herriman's opponent on the Aug. 28 ballot, Rob Wallace, was willing to talk about the issue in a telephone interview Thursday but clearly didn't want to highlight it. He said the issue rarely comes up when he talks to 2nd District voters.

"Really nobody's talking about it," he said. "Everyone's talking about quality jobs. Everybody's talking about Social Security and Medicare and the preservation of those programs for the seniors. People are talking about water. I'm not getting the health-care question very often out on the campaign trail."

The law has some good features but also needs some changes, Wallace said.

Two of the law's popular changes - requiring insurance companies to let parents keep their children insured to age 26 and preventing insurance companies from refusing insurance because of pre-existing conditions - have been helpful in his own family and for many other Oklahomans, Wallace said.

He also pointed to rules in the law to prevent insurance companies from canceling coverage when clients get sick as the kind of reform that many people appreciate, but he said the job isn't finished.

"We've got reform to do in the system because we've got to do something to make sure that we make health care affordable to everybody," he said.

Inflation of health-care costs needs to be reduced, and the system can't overburden small businesses, he said.

Wallace said that like many people, he was surprised at the high court's decision.

In the 1st District, the two men vying to replace Republican John Sullivan in Congress took different positions on the ruling.

When asked about the Supreme Court's ruling, Republican nominee Jim Brindenstine's response was short and direct: "You can let folks know I'm definitely disappointed. The individual mandate is unconstitutional, and Obamacare needs to be repealed," he said.

John Olson, the Democratic nominee, said many parts of the law are broadly supported by Oklahomans.

"I have said all along that the so-called individual mandate should be called what the Supreme Court has affirmed: a tax on those who choose not to buy insurance. All of us use the health-care system, whether we have insurance or not," Olson said.

"I look forward to working in Congress to address the flaws in the (Affordable Care Act) and continue to improve and expand the right to affordable health care that we all share."

With both the Republican and Democratic candidates determined in Tuesday's primary election, Bridenstine and Olson face off in the Nov. 6 general election.

World Staff Writer Randy Krehbiel contributed to this story.

Coming Sunday

A doctor, a college student, a small business owner and more - almost everyone will be affected by the Supreme Court's ruling on a controversial health-care law that's become known as "Oba-macare." We introduce you to Tulsans who wonder what it will mean to them.

Curry fights tears as she says goodbye to 'Today'

NEW YORK (AP) ? For a morning show used to celebrating family and a connection with its audience, the "Today" show's farewell to co-host Ann Curry on Thursday was brief, tearful and sad.

It was tinged with the sense of failure, something NBC's dominant morning show hasn't experienced in a long time.

Curry, who was co-host with Matt Lauer for a year after several years as the news anchor, fought back tears on the air, saying "this is not as I expected to ever leave this couch."

Her departure ended a week's worth of awkward television. She came to work after word got out that NBC was looking to oust her, with neither she nor the network commenting on the stories until Thursday. "I'm sorry I couldn't carry the ball over the finish line but, man, I did try," she said.

While Curry was placed in a role to which she was unsuited, blaming her for the "Today" show's troubles would be simplistic. Expecting her successor ? most likely NBC's Savannah Guthrie ? to author an immediate turnaround would be unrealistic.

"There's nothing wrong with Ann Curry," said Shelley Ross, former producer for ABC's "Good Morning America" and CBS' "The Early Show." ''It is not an Ann Curry failure."

Her ouster, however, was NBC's first visible response to the end of its historic winning streak this spring. Starting in December 1995, NBC had won every week in the morning show ratings ? 852 consecutive weeks ? until being topped by "Good Morning America." The two shows have since traded victories, with ABC winning a total of four weeks.

NBC's long decline in prime-time has likely affected the "Today" show, giving it less visibility among viewers. The network's executives say that "Good Morning America" does particularly well when it features members of the "Dancing With the Stars" cast from ABC's prime-time lineup.

But it's clear that ABC's morning show has been on the upswing and has a team of obvious chemistry, while "Today" has been on its heels. Ross said the show needs to be "fresher and scrappier."

"The 'Today' show is now stagnating from what I would call the arrogance of being No. 1," she said. "That will happen to anybody. You stagnate because you're No. 1 and think you don't need to change."

It's hard to overstate the importance of the "Today" show to NBC, particularly with so many other things at the network going wrong. Last year "Today" earned an estimated $484 million in revenue, more than "GMA" ($298 million) and CBS' morning show ($156 million) combined, according to Kantar Media. Losing the top spot in the ratings means a lot more than bragging rights.

"It's a tough business and there's a huge amount of money involved here," said Bill Wheatley, a former NBC News executive who now teaches at Columbia University.

Television is no different than sports or the business world in the likelihood that someone will take a fall when things go wrong. Curry's co-host, Matt Lauer, is generally considered the top anchor in morning television now, and maybe of all time, and he recently signed a new contract. He's not going anywhere. The "Today" executive producer, Jim Bell, is regarded highly at NBC and was given the additional assignment of producing the network's Olympic coverage from London.

Enter Curry.

Curry is respected as a reporter at NBC News, and is staying at the network to continue in a reporting role. Yet when Katie Couric left "Today" to go to CBS, Curry was passed over for the top job for Meredith Vieira.

Vieira had unassailable credentials as a former "60 Minutes" reporter at CBS News and the dominant personality on the talk show "The View." There was no one in the wings with such strength when Vieira left, and there was a general sense at NBC that Curry deserved the chance to be co-host and viewers would resent it if she didn't get one.

Yet she never seemed to achieve a solid comfort level. One former morning show producer said the chemistry involved in such programs is like seeing people who dance well together ? they anticipate moves, know preferences and instinctively follow each other's cues. That was a strength for "Today" for many years, and it didn't seem to work with Curry in her new role.

She was luckless, too, as when she was hit in the head by a camera on Tuesday's show.

She's a smart, earnest woman who appears offscreen exactly as she is on the air. She'll give an intense stare and expression of concern, maybe touch an arm for emphasis. She cares deeply. "You have the biggest heart in the business," Lauer said on Thursday. "You put it on display every single day in this studio."

Somehow, though, it came off on television as more odd than heartwarming.

When word spread that NBC was negotiating Curry's departure, the network privately wanted to emphasize that Lauer was in no way behind it. There's no evidence that he was. Yet he's an extremely powerful man at NBC News, and if he fought hard to keep Curry, that's not evident either.

With her new reporting role, Curry won't be disappearing from the air. She'll even be back on "Today" with reports occasionally, and Lauer said she will accompany the "Today" team to London for its Olympics coverage, considered an important showcase for "Today" to renew its lapsed relationship with some longtime viewers.

Adobe confirms it won't support Flash on Android 4.1, stops new Flash installs from Google Play on August 15th

Adobe Flash Platform

Adobe was very public about dropping mobile Flash last fall. In case that wasn't clear enough, the developer just drew a line in the sand: Android 4.1 doesn't, and won't ever, get certification for Flash. The company is stopping short of saying that Flash won't run, but it's evident that Adobe won't help you if the web browser plugin doesn't install (or breaks in spectacular fashion) on that Nexus 7. Just to underscore the point, the firm is also halting new installations of Flash from Google Play as of August 15th. Security updates and other vital patches will continue on for existing users. Any fresh downloads after that fateful day, however, will have to come from Adobe's mausoleum for old versions. The company had already said that HTML5 was the way forward on phones and tablets -- now we know just how quickly it's backing up that claim.

How to have a safe July Fourth celebration | cancer, meat, children ...

This July Fourth, Americans are expected to consume 150 million hot dogs on the No. 1 day of the year for barbecues.

Last year, Americans set off 234 million pounds of fireworks, most of them at home rather than at shows.

And in Orange County, thousands of people are expected to visit the beach.

Independence Day is a week away. To keep safety in your celebration, without losing the sparkle, local health experts offer tips for wherever your day off takes you.

GRILLING

The American Institute for Cancer Research has published recommendations for reducing the production of cancer-causing compounds on barbecued meat.

"Big portions of red and processed meat are a well-known concern with respect to colorectal cancer," said Alice Bender, a dietitian, in a news release. "And although the evidence of the link between grilling itself and cancer risk is less strong, it only makes sense to take some easy cancer-protective precautions."

She explained that charring results in cancer-causing compounds called heterocyclic amines (HCAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). These substances can potentially damage DNA in ways that make cancer more likely.

Dr. Jason Zell, an oncologist and researcher at UC Irvine Medical Center, said the compounds are only caused when charring meat because of the interaction of high temperatures with muscle fiber. He said processed meats, such as sausage, already contain carcinogenic substances.

"Grilled vegetables don't have the same risk at all," Zell said. "That's the easy solution right there ? grilled veggie burger, vegetables, Portobello mushrooms."

The cancer research institute has the following recommendations:

?Marinate the meat, which reduces the formation of HCAs.

?Cook meat slowly at a lower temperature to reduce burning and charring.

?Partially pre-cook meat so it spends less time on the grill.

?Grill fruits and vegetables, which contain phytochemicals that offer protection against cancer.

FIREWORKS

Amy Frias, a community educator at Children's Hospital of Orange County, said the safest place for a viewing is a public show. Parents of young children who might be fearful of loud noises can give the kids earplugs or noise canceling head phones.

"Children should never play with any type of firework," she said. "Even sparklers can reach 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit and that is burning, burning, burning hot."

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, of the 9,000 fireworks-related injuries that occur each year, 21 percent affect the eyes. One in every six fireworks-related eye injuries results in permanent vision loss or blindness.

If fireworks are allowed in your city and you decide to light them at home, Frias offered these tips:

?Use only legal fireworks and light them one at a time.

?Wear eye protection.

?Keep a bucket of water nearby in case of accidents.

?Don't relight a dud.

?Don't hold in your hand to light, but light on the ground.

WATER SAFETY

Frias said drowning is one of the top causes of death for children in Orange County.

Assign a water watcher who knows how to swim and knows CPR.

?At the beach, don't rely on lifeguards to supervise your children.

?Flotation devices and water wings are toys, not life-saving protection.

?Even adults should never swim alone.

Forming a California Business as an LLC ...

There?s more to starting a business than coming up with a great idea. A business owner also must decide how the business should be structured. Until recently, most California businesses chose between sole proprietor, partnership, and incorporation. However, California businesses are now choosing to go with a limited liability company (LLC) structure more than any other. A LLC offers more legal protection of personal assets than a partnership, but retains the tax savings pass-through characteristics.

Unlike LLCs, corporations can go public. For that reason, venture capital companies prefer to work with corporations rather than with LLCs.? But unless you are planning to take your California business public, an LLC may well be the best business formation structure to serve the business needs of the owners.

Unlike corporations, LLCs don?t suffer from double-taxation, in which the corporate entity is taxed and then its shareholders? dividends are taxed as well. This benefit applies to LLCs that are classified as partnerships for tax purposes. An LLC tax preparer simply checks a box on his or her federal return to indicate how the organization will be taxed. Earnings and losses pass through to the owners and are included on their personal tax returns.

There?s also less paperwork involved with running an LLC than a formal corporation, and LLCs are the most flexible when it comes to organization. There are fewer rules regarding who can be a shareholder, and they also tend to be more informally run than a regular corporation.

Sitting down with an Experienced Attorney in California Business Law is the best way to sort through the tax and organizational ramifications of business formation, and figure out what?s right for the needs of your business. Home Improvement Trends for 2012/2013 | Award Winning Home ...

Although the housing market is improving slightly, numbers are still far from good and the chance this will change in the next year is very slim. Most homeowners are still trending toward improving their existing home rather than ?improving by moving? as was done in the past. Consumers are gaining confidence as is reflected in the Bloomberg Consumer Comfort Index which rose to its highest level since April of 2008 but they are still very familiar with how fragile the home market can be and are choosing to stay put. That being said, what improvements are they looking make?
There are 4 areas that are getting the most attention: curb appeal, lower maintenance, lower energy usage, and going green.

CURB APPEAL

With most homeowners realizing that they will be staying in their existing home for a very long time and not just the 3 to 5 years they may have thought when they originally purchased the home, they have become more conscious of how it looks every day when they pull in the driveway. Thus, improvements like landscaping, roofing, siding, painting and windows are high on their list. Although these items are not as sexy as a new kitchen or bathroom they can make a big difference to the appearance of the home in a very short time and have always proven to add immediate value to the home even in a down market.

LOWER MAINTENANCE

Similar to the general population, current homeowners are getting older and busier. The baby boomers are either retired, getting ready for retirement or wished they were retired. The younger ones usually need both husband and wife working and sometimes with more than one job. The amount of time left to putter around the house doing household maintenance has shrunk drastically. Also, no matter how charming we contractors think we are, if most people had their way, they would love to never have to call us again. Therefore, home owners are looking for ways to lower or even eliminate some of the items on their homes that require maintenance. Improvements they find that fill this need are permanent siding such as vinyl or fiber cement, vinyl fencing, composite decking, aluminum patio covers, tile roofing, artificial grass, and permanent exterior coatings. All of these products are replacing areas of the home that traditionally were accomplished with a wood product. Wood is a beautiful material but it requires constant costly painting, repair and replacement that most homeowners simply do not have the time, expertise or desire to accomplish.

LOWER ENERGY USAGE

Even if your house is free and clear, you still have to pay your property taxes and your energy bills. There are some states that have enacted laws to restrict how high your property taxes can go but there is nothing to stop the constant rise in energy costs. There is no expert on the planet that is predicting energy costs to go down in the long term. Therefore, the only thing a homeowner can do to protect themselves from this uncertainty, is make their home more energy efficient. The home improvement industry has been well aware of this trend and has developed many products to help homeowners with this issue. Most of these products have proven to be great investments because lowering energy usage wil lower the homeowner?s monthly bills thus paying for themselves. The improvements that fall into this category are Solar products such as solar water heating and solar electrical generation, energy efficient windows, Insulation, Insulated vinyl siding, efficient lighting (LED), tankless water heaters, heat reflective exterior coating, energy efficient heating and air systems with proper duck work, and caulking and sealing of the homes envelope. Every homeowner knows that they need these products but what holds most back is the lack of knowledge about what is available and just how efficient the new products are. Most local power companies now offer incentives for homeowners to make their homes more energy efficient. They range from home energy audits to rebates and low financing packages.

GOING GREEN

For a long time most people including home improvement contractors, looked at ?Going Green? as nothing more than a slogan. That time has passed, and the ?Green? movement is here to stay. Many States along with the Federal Government have passed new regulations that have built in requirements that will get more restrictive as time goes on to make it mandatory for building products to become ?Green?. A ?Green? product is one that is sustainable, recyclable, low maintenance, energy efficient in manufacturing, distribution and operation, in other words, a small carbon footprint. For most homeowners, building a complete ?Green? home is not practical or even possible. They have to take their existing structure and make it as ?Green? as they can with the resources they have. Some of the improvements that almost any homeowner can make are: energy efficient lighting, caulking and sealing leaks in the homes envelope, proper insulation, tankless water heater, energy efficient windows and doors, efficient heating and air systems with proper duct work, new insulated sidings, and heat reflective permanent exterior coatings. As with the section on ?Energy Efficiency?, most local power companies are currently offering incentives to homeowners to complete these types of improvements.
These 4 trends are all tied together and the products that fill the needs also overlap. The opportunities are there for both the home improvement contractor and the homeowner. Right now, a homeowner can take advantage of great values due the fact that most contractors are just coming out of one of the worst markets they have seen in a long time but that will not last. As the market improves, demand will increase as will prices. This makes this a great time for a homeowner to take advantage of lower prices and power company incentives for many of these improvements. For the contractor, as pointed out above the need is growing and as the economy improves the ability for homeowner to obtain these improvements will increase.

Samsung: Galaxy S III sales to hit 10M in July

Samsung Electronics Co., the world's top mobile phone maker, said Monday it expects global sales of the latest Galaxy smartphone to surpass 10 million in July even as it struggles to keep up with demand because of component shortages.

Shin Jong-kyun, president of Samsung's mobile communications business, said the Galaxy S III will hit the 10-million milestone within two months of its launch.

"It has been tough to keep up with demand," Shin told reporters.

Samsung's failure to procure sufficient mobile components for its latest smartphone has stoked concerns that its second-quarter smartphone sales could be much lower than expected. Shin said the company expects to resolve the supply issues with mobile components sometime in the next week.

"Despite the tough economic situation in Europe and problems with supplying components for the Galaxy S III, the second-quarter earnings will be better than the first quarter," he said.

Shares of Samsung tumbled 4.2 percent on the Seoul bourse on Monday, closing at a four-month low. The benchmark Kospi index fell 1.2 percent.

Samsung began sales of the Galaxy S III in Europe on May 29 and released the smartphone through all major mobile U.S. carriers last week. In its home market, the company started sales of the latest iteration of Galaxy earlier Monday.

Samsung's sales estimate for the S III reflects robust demand from mobile operators. Unlike Apple Inc., Samsung does not disclose sales figures to consumers.

The South Korean company said the S III will be released by around 300 mobile carriers in 147 countries by the end of July, aiming for an early start before rival Apple announces a new version of the iPhone in the third quarter.

The third version of the Galaxy S features a bigger screen ? measured 4.8-inch diagonally ? but is thinner and lighter than its predecessors and the iPhone 4S.

Samsung packed the high-end smartphone with a legion of new features including eye-recognition technology that keeps the screen from dimming. It also has voice command functions that let users schedule an alarm or adjust volume by speaking to their device.

Its near-field communication technology enables sharing of data heavy multimedia content among Galaxy S III users quickly. But activating the function ? called S Beam ? takes multiple steps.

Because Samsung customizes its flagship smartphone based on Google's Android operating system, some of Samsung's features overlap with those made by Google.

Separately, Samsung's mobile president said it is still investigating the explosion of a Galaxy S III in Ireland. He said the battery wasn't the cause.

Samsung overtook Nokia as the world's biggest mobile-phone maker in 2011 and competes with Apple for the top smartphone maker position. It aims to double its smartphone sales this year to nearly 200 million phones.

HD61 GOP race quiet ahead of primary Tuesday

As other candidates hurl accusations and drop tens of thousands of dollars on marketing and materials, the Republican race for state House District 61 has been marked by its lack of cutthroat campaigning.

Both sides say mudslinging just isn't part of the strategy.

Breckenridge contender Debra Irvine, who unsuccessfully challenged Democrat Christine Scanlan for the state House in 2010, says the background of her opponent, Gunnison Constitutionalist David Justice, speaks for itself.

He agrees.

?I'm offering myself as a candidate,? Justice said. ?If I had a campaign strategy, it's not to as much run a race or attempt to win as it is to offer me on my merits and what I stand for.?

Together, Justice and Irvine have spent less than $5,000 on the race thus far, a paltry sum compared to the more than $70,000 their counterparts have dropped in the GOP primary for Senate District 8, which includes Summit County.

In contrast to the thousands of mailers and attack advertisements that have dominated other races, Justice's campaigning in Summit County has been limited to an open house and several opinion pieces to the Summit Daily News. Irvine's most visible campaign moves have been a few signs, radio ads and an announcement speech on the steps of the Old Summit County Courthouse.

?We are running a positive campaign,? Irvine stated in an email. ?Our radio ads throughout the district are my voice speaking on our issues.?

Still, Justice said winning Republican votes could be a challenge in a county where many already know Irvine's name.

?I don't know if I have enough (support) to pull an upset,? Justice said. ?I tend to think Summit will be more supportive of Debra.?

In a newly formed district, it's hard to anticipate the pull local Republicans' decision could have on the primary. Summit County is the most populous in the newly formed district, but the GOP camp here is outnumbered by more than 1,600 votes in Delta County. Justice's home county of Gunnison, on the other hand, registers only 997 active Republicans, compared to Summit's 3,613.

But Justice said he believes the race could come down not to the numbers but to the industries and interests involved.

?It may come down to agricultural interests versus tourism interests,? Justice said.

Justice has come out against state tourism spending, currently in the millions of dollars and largely targeted at drawing visitors into Colorado.

But Irvine, a Club 20 member who said she does support tourism spending at the state level because of the proven return on investment, said she didn't think the votes will be divided by industry, noting that her agenda to reduce regulations and taxes on businesses applies to all industries.

?I believe I have support across the board,? she said.

Irvine and Justice will face off for the Republican ticket for HD 61 Tuesday. The winner will challenge incumbent Democrat Millie Hamner of Dillon and at least two minor-party candidates for the seat in the general election in November.

The new HD61 encompasses Summit, Lake, Pitkin and parts of Delta and Gunnison counties.

LeBron comes back to Twitter with over 5 million followers

MIAMI (AP) -- LeBron James is back on Twitter, and the Miami Heat star has more followers than ever.

The newly crowned NBA champion and NBA Finals MVP ended a nearly two-month break from social media early Friday, posting a 50-second video to thank fans for both their support and their patience.

James now has just over 5 million followers. He crossed that milestone Friday, a few hours after the Heat beat the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5 of the finals to win the franchise's second championship.

James - whose Twitter handle is (at)kingjames - said he stopped tweeting during the playoffs in an effort to avoid distractions as he chased his first championship.

"I'm at a loss for words right now," James said in the video. "I want to shout-out my fans. I know I haven't been with you all the last couple months. Think April 27 was the last time I sent out a tweet. But I want you all to know that I just wanted to try to get as focused as possible on this championship run."

He paused there for a moment, pointing to his hat printed with the words "2012 NBA Champions" and the Heat logo.

"And as you can see, I am a champion," James continued. "But without you guys, it wouldn't have been possible. You guys stuck with me throughout the whole playoffs. You guys stuck with me through the last couple years. And thank you guys so much. You guys share this championship with me and this MVP trophy with me, this MVP finals trophy with me. Love you guys, and I am back."

James tweeted twice more in the next few hours. On Friday morning, after the team party ended, he wrote "I think it just hit me, I'm a CHAMPION!! I AM a CHAMPION!!"

Later Friday, he posted a photo of himself standing near his stall in the Heat locker room, holding the NBA championship trophy in one hand and his finals MVP trophy in the other.

"It's still so surreal! Don't wake me up from this feeling," James wrote.

He is the second U.S.-based athlete to cross the 5-million-follower mark: Shaquille O'Neal has about 850,000 more followers than James. And last month, the NBA became the world's first major sports league with more than 5 million followers.

On Tuesday night, James will appear on the on "Late Show with David Letterman" on CBS.

USAID cuts funding for Elmo on Pakistan TV

The US cut $20 million for Pakistani version of Sesame Street. USAID alleges fraud against the show's producers, but the cutbacks come as the US is pulling back foreign aid.

The cutbacks come amid allegations of fraud by the Lahore-based theater group that produces the children?s show, the Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop, but it also comes at a time when the US-Pakistani relationship is strained, and when the US government is cutting back dramatically on foreign aid worldwide.

USAID allocated $20 million for the production of Sim Sim Hamara (which means ?Our Street? in Urdu), and $6.7 million of that was used to produce the first season, which premiered in 2011. The remainder of the contract has been terminated, pending the results of an investigation into the fraud charges.

"We did launch an investigation into the allegations. We also sent the theater workshop a letter that terminates the project agreement," US State Department spokesman Mark Toner told a news briefing in Washington on June 5. "No one is questioning, obviously, the value and positive impact of this kind of programming for children. But this is about allegations of corruption."

Faizaan Peerzada, Rafi Peer?s chief operating officer, denied the fraud charges, saying in a statement, ?Rafi Peer is proud of its association with the project and the quality of children?s educational television programming created within Pakistan as a result.?

Whatever the ultimate result of the investigation, the shutdown of funds into children?s broadcasting in Pakistan come at an unfortunate time in the US-Pakistani relationship.

NATO airstrikes and US special forces raids on Pakistani territory have strained Pakistani patience with the US-led war on terror, and Pakistan has shut off NATO?s use of Pakistani roads and ports to resupply its troops in Afghanistan. The US, meanwhile, has grown increasingly frustrated with what it sees as signs of either Pakistani collusion with militant groups such as the Taliban, or incompetence in bringing them under control.

U.S., Israel Fired Up Flame Cyberattack, Washington Post Contends

WASHINGTON D.C. - According to several sources who spoke with the Washington Post, Flame helped "prepare the battlefield" for other cyberattacks, including Stuxnet. The Washington Post reports, citing sources, that Flame was the brainchild of the U.S. National Security Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency, and Israel's military. The focus of the malware was to surreptitiously map and monitor Iran's networks to deliver sustained intelligence to the government organizations. That information could then be used for other attacks. The New York Times reported earlier this month that Stuxnet, which damaged some Iranian centrifuges used in its nuclear power program, also was developed by the same two countries. And Flame appeared to do the advance intelligence work to give Stuxnet the targeting coordinates it needed. "This is about preparing the battlefield for another type of covert action," an intelligence official told the Washington Post. "Cyber-collection against the Iranian program is way further down the road than this." The source went on to tell the Post that Israel and the U.S. are still conducting a cyberassault on Iran. Flame was discovered last month, but had been in operation since 2010. Kaspersky, which first noted the virus, said that it appeared to be "state-sponsored," but at the time stopped short of saying it came from the U.S. and Israel. Flame's main charge, according to security experts, was to steal information about targeted systems and stored files, as well as information on the computer display and audio conversations. Iran was the central target for the virus, but it also impacted machines in the West Bank, Syria, and other Middle East countries, as well as Sudan. The U.S. has stayed tight-lipped on its possible involvement in Flame. After Israeli vice prime minister Moshe Ya'alon said on the country's military radio station, Army Radio, last month that "there are quite a few governments in the West that have rich high-tech [capabilities] that view Iran, and particularly the Iranian nuclear threat, as a meaningful threat -- and can possibly be involved with this field," his office was forced to publicly deny any involvement with Flame. Despite first delivering its payload in 2010, Flame was under development at least five years ago, according to the Post's sources. The development was part of an effort known as Olympic Games, which according to an earlier report by The New York Times, also included the Stuxnet virus. While Flame and Stuxnet have been brought to light, similar payloads may still be lurking. In fact, one source told the Post that the unveiling of Stuxnet and Flame "doesn't mean that other tools aren't in play or performing effectively." Listing Agreements on Mexican Property | Cochran Real Estate

There are different laws and procedures you will encounter when you go outside your home turf. In the USA and Canada, the differences can be between states or provinces, and in Europe, the differences in the countries themselves.? Louisiana has different real estate law from New York; Russia has different real estate law from Ireland.

What a listing for sale means when you see it advertised in Mexico:

An exclusive listing and an open listing are pretty well described by their names:? Some people here confuse the word ?exclusive.?? It means the listing agent has the exclusive representation of the owner and no one else represents the seller as the real estate marketing agent.? The exclusive listing agent may offer the listing to co-operating agents and share the commission.? Most sellers want to be sure co-operating is done, so the listing agent promotes it to all his associates and the public.

You need to know if you are listing your property or looking for property:

In Mexico, qualified real estate attorneys have explained to us that promoting the listing is much different from what we know: The seller is making a unilateral offer to the public when the real estate is advertised. The seller has agreed to sell for the price shown.? ?The three bedroom two bath condominium in Amapas is offered at 450,000usd.? A buyer submits an offer for 450,000usd and the acceptance is complete.? The seller doesn?t have to really do much except now hope that the legal paperwork and representations which were understood, are correct. The representation is made that the property can be sold and it only needs someone to meet the price and not change any terms, such as conditional upon financing, or seller inspection which asks for price concessions, etc.

If the seller receives an offer meeting his promotion, it is a done deal!? The seller does not have the right to change his mind or withdraw because he does not want to sell.? If the seller receives a lower offer or other terms and conditions which change the promotion to the public, the seller is not bound to sell categorically with these differences, but he may counter or negotiate.

Tuareg designer brings 'anti-sharia' sass to Dakar ramps

The Sahel's most feted fashionista, Tuareg designer Alphadi, hit the runway at Dakar Fashion Week with a homage to Mali, whose vast north is largely under control of hardline Islamists.

The bright colours, occasionally bare arms and sparkle that sashayed down the catwalk were definitely not in keeping with sharia, the strict Islamic law that has been enforced in northern Mali for the past two months.

"That's the idea," laughed the man who was introduced to the crowd at the final show of the 10th annual Dakar Fashion Week on Saturday night as the "Magician of the Desert".

Alphadi was born in the fabled city of Timbuktu, an ancient trading hub, intellectual centre and popular metaphor for a mythical faraway place.

But since jihadists exploited a political vacuum following a coup d'etat and planted their ominous black flags in the town in late March, tens of thousands have fled and those that remain have to follow strict Islamic law.

Women have to wear veils and are not permitted to wear trousers, smokers are flogged and cigarettes and alcohol destroyed.

"It shocks me," Alphadi said in an interview with AFP on Sunday.

"Timbuktu has always been a secular town, everyone living together, sharing, blacks and whites, very cosmopolitan. A mysterious town!"

The 55-year-old, whose full name is Sidahmed Seidnaly, moved to Niger with his trader parents aged 13 which is where his brand rose from the arid, dusty edges of the Sahara desert to find fame in fashion capitals New York and Paris.

"The situation in Mali affects me deeply, I am Malian of origin, it cannot continue like this," said Alphadi, effusing about politics while simultaneously directing assistants, models and greeting passers-by.

On June 2 he raised 50 million CFA (76,000 euros, $95,000) in a telethon held in Niamey which he will on Wednesday hand to the UN refugee agency, which counts 41,000 Malian refugees in Niger.

Through his "fashion for peace" designs, made by Malian artisans and featuring hand-dyed polished cotton known as bazin, Alphadi wants to unveil Mali's creativity which he says should not be stifled by sharia.

He showed voluminous bazin skirts, shoulderless tops accessorised by a glittery wisp of fabric which could graze the hair and fall over the shoulders as an afterthought of a veil, or be used as a shawl.

At the end of the show Alphadi surged to the front dressed in shiny red, gold and green, carrying a large Malian flag in the same colours.

Mali's woes began in January when Tuaregs launched a decades-old bid for independence in the north. Alphadi agreed his people had been ignored for decades by Bamako, but said splitting Mali in two could not be the answer.

Mali's army was overwhelmed by the Tuareg rebels who brought weapons back from Libya's recent war, and staged a coup on March 22.

With the north barely protected, the Tuaregs quickly seized the main towns.

At their flanks were the Islamist group Ansar Dine, or Defenders of Faith, backed by Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) who soon took the upper hand and have had a fractious relationship with the secular Tuareg.

Another Malian designer Mariah Bocoum is from Bamako where she and her children were holed up in the days after the coup, smelling gunpowder and hearing shots fired around the capital.

She was inspired to do a five-piece mini-collection.

A form-fitting green dress with green beret cocked on the model's head symbolised the low-ranking putschists.

A similar outfit with red belt and red beret symbolised the former regime, which was protected by paratroopers who attempted a counter-coup.

"The three others represent the Malian population as I would like to see it, full of colours which express joy: Blue, green, orange, yellow," said Bocoum.

"It is an invitation to get rid of this hate we have for each other. Green beret against red beret, some Tuareg against the southerners and vice versa. My dream is to see these people hand-in-hand so we can save our country from the Islamists."

Microsoft partners with Audible to enhance Windows Phone voice recognition, available for WP 7.5 and up

Microsoft partners with Audible to enhance voice recognition in Windows Phone 8

Siri, S Voice -- well, now Microsoft's got its own answer to those rival voice services (sort of) and it's coming in the form of a partnership with Audible on the Windows Phone platform. The company's very own Kevin Gallo took to the stage at today's Summit in San Francisco to demonstrate the enhanced feature running on Windows Phone 8. Though the Redmond-made OS has supported voice commands since the platform's seventh iteration (née Mango) by allowing users to launch applications, it can now also help users search, as well as play audiobook files. In the demo, Gallo was able to skip a chapter ahead, pause and resume listening to his selected Game of Thrones title. And lest the WP faithful feel left behind with the seemingly endless spate of Apollo-only features, the company's making this integration available to handsets running WP 7.5 and up starting later today.
